40th Earth Day celebrated across the world

Bangalore, Apr 23: The 40th Earth Day is here and people around the world have chosen different ways to celebrate.

In United States, US President Barack Obama reach out to the Americans to contribute to the improvement of the environment,

Obama said that in the past 40 years US has made tremendous progress legislation on air pollution and no water, and conservation of natural landscapes.

The Presidential address on Earth Day, was enhanced by the participation of actors from 'Avatar' and its director James Cameron as they gathered at Los Angeles to celebrate.

In Bolivia for instance, the Peoples" Conference on Climate Change and the Rights of Mother Earth, an initiative of President Evo Morales, the Day was marked with several Latin American leaders demanding the industrialized countries to reduce their greenhouse gases by 2020.

Back home in India, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit spoke on her government's commitment to water conservation in the city, adding that around Rs 16 lakh has been collected so far by imposing fine on using hosepipes for washing cars.

In Patna, a two-day workship, starting from Apr 20, on globe-making was organised at Sri Krishna Science Centre.
