Terry is a great captain, says Lampard

By Super Admin

London, Apr 21 (ANI): Frank Lampard has defended under-fire tammate John Terry by saying that the Chelsea skipper's will to win makes him a great leader.

Terry has faced sever criticism following his dismissal in the damaging 2-1 defeat at Tottenham for the two tackles for which he was booked.

Lampard has issued a staunch defence of Terry, while insisting that Chelsea received no favours from referee Phil Dowd at White Hart Lane even though at least one other penalty appeal by Spurs was waved away.

"John wants to win. He's a fantastic captain. For the first yellow I felt he got a slight touch on the ball. But with the second yellow, you knew the minute the tackle went in he was going to get sent off," The Daily Express quoted Lampard, as saying.

"When you're playing in such circumstances sometimes these things happen, but I don't think the referee gave us much in the game," he said

Lampard scored Chelsea's consolation goal in injury time, and while it did not make up for a miserable afternoon, it was a strike that could be crucial come the last day of the season if the title is to be decided on goal difference.

Chelsea still have a one-point lead over United as they prepare to meet Stoke on Sunday without the suspended Terry, and they are also three goals better off. (ANI)
