"There were 14 foetuses in the garbage bin. All the foetuses have been sent to civil hospital for postmortem," Bapunagar police inspector RD Lashkari is quoted as saying in a news agency report.
It was the locals who alerted the police on the foetuses lying in the garbage bin near the stadium on Monday, Apr 19 morning.
Among the locals who found the foetuses, one person informed the police that the foetuses could have been dumped by the private nursing homes in the area which were conducting sex determination tests.
The sex of the foetuses will be determined in the postmortem, the inspector said adding that a case has been registered.
India, which has seen a long history of female feticide due to various beliefs held by the people, made sex determination tests illegal a few years ago.
This evil practice of killing the girl child has led to the country having disproportionate male-female ratio.
Despite the government's move to criminalise sex determination tests, various hospitals and clinics still conduct these tests and take part in continuing the shameful tradition of female feticide.
