Islamabad, Apr.18 (ANI): Pakistan's hope of defending the coveted ICC T20 World Championship title suffered a major jolt on Sunday when fast bowler Umar Gul was ruled out of the squad due to a shoulder injury.
Gul, Pakistan's leading wicket-taker in the previous two editions of the Twenty20 World Cup, had hurt his shoulder during a training camp at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore earlier this month.
"Umar Gul has failed to recover from his injury, and has therefore been dropped from the squad," The Nation quoted coach Waqar Younis, as saying.
All-rounder Yasir Aarafat has already been ruled of the tournament.
Younis said fast bowlers Mohammad Sami and Mohammad Irfan would be replacing both the injured players in the 15-man squad, which is scheduled to leave for the Caribbean from Lahore on April 24. (ANI)
