Gwalior, Apr 17 (ANI): There is a sharp decline in fish breeding at the only Fish Breeding Farm in Gwalior due to water scarcity and rise in temperature.

More than 300 kilograms of breeding fish have died over the past two years.

K N Dikshit, in-charge of the Fisheries Department in Gwalior said that the adequate temperature for fish breeding is 18 to 20 degrees Celsius during the rainy season. owever, these days the temperature has risen above 30 degrees Celsius.

"The whole farm consists of only three bore wells and out of them two are not working...one is working through which we manage the whole process of breeding," he added Dikshit.

All the fishes are kept and bred in a single pond as all the other ponds in the farm have dried up, which has led to overcrowding in the pond and affected the yield. Each fish weighing one kilogram lays 100,000 eggs, and fish weighing two kilograms would mean 200,000 eggs.

Dikshit also said that the farm suffers huge losses as the fishes are steadily dying, even though the water is being circulated in the best possible manner. (ANI)
