Bangalore: BDA gets set to tackle rains
Bangalore, Apr 16: With the monsoons set to sweep the country in a few weeks, the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) readying itself to take on the challenge of ensuring that no lives are lost due to the rains this year.
The BDA has set up control rooms at its four divisional offices so that help is made accessible to the residents of the flood-prone regions in case of an emergency and to thwart any untoward rain-related problems.
The development authority is also coordinating with the Bruhut Bangalore Mahanagar Palike (BMMP) officials to help the people enjoy a event-free monsoon season.
Each control room will be manned under the supervision of an Engineering Officer supported by Executive Engineer and his staff, the BDA said in a statement on Friday, Apr 16.
The officials will receive calls and attend to problems immediately, it added.
Each control rooms will have ten officials, who will be equipped with tractors, vehicles, diesel pump sets and essential items.
The preparations to welcome the rains have already begun as Commissioner Siddaih has issued a direction to identify the flood-prone areas and to take up works such as de-silting and de-clogging of drains so that the rain water flows smoothly.
This is a commendable initiative as it comes after floods killed hundreds in Karnataka in 2009.
