New Delhi, Apr 15: Making a statement in the Rajya Sabha on the Dantewada Maoist massacre, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram informed that an inquiry has been launched into the attack.

Urging for patience over the incident, the minister said, "E N Ram Mohan, IPS (Retd) has been appointed as the one-man Inquiry Committee. He has been requested to submit his report in two weeks. I would submit to the House that we should await the report of the Inquiry Committee before reaching any final conclusions."

"Let us not forget that goal of the Naxalites is to overthrow the established authority of the Government through armed liberation struggle," he said, adding that the government's call to CPI (Maoists) for talks was with a hope to resolve the issue and put an end to violence.

He concluded the speech saying, "Even as we grieve the loss of lives, I appeal to the House - and through this House to the people of India - which we should remain calm, hold our nerve and stay on the course that we had carefully chosen since Oct 2009."

Chidambaram's statement came amid the uproar in both the houses of the Parliament over the Maoist attack, in which 76 lives of CRPF and police personnel were lost.
