Brasilia, Apr 12: A 40-year-old man was arrested on charges of murder on Saturday, Apr 10, after he admitted to raping six teenagers and then murdering and then burying their body in a city near the Brazilian capital.

Admar de Jesus, a labourer in the city of Luziania, confessed to his crime and led the police to the spot where he buried the body of his victims.

The body will be sent for forensic examination to check whether they match with those of the six teenagers who have been reported missing from Luziania, a town located 66 km from the Brazilian capital, Wesley Almeida, police commissioner in charge of the case said.

However, he said that investigation has come to an end from the point of view of the police as "we have a confession and the bodies".

The six teenagers, age between 13 and 16 years, were reported missing during the first two weeks of Jan 2010. The victims were from the same part of town.

Police said that they had narrowed down on the accused as they had centered there investigation on a paedophile as the possible murderer.

Concentrating on this angle of the case, they investigated the criminal background of the residents of the city, which eventually led them to De Jesus, who was the only person to have been convicted of sexual crimes. De Jesus was monitored for the following 10 days.

The crucial factor in De Jesus' arrest was the judicially-authorised tapping of his telephone, through which the police came to know that he had given the mobile of one of the missing teenagers to a girl.
