Banned Younis likely to replace Sangakkara in Lancashire

By Super Admin

London, Apr.10 (ANI): Banned former Pakistan captain Younis Khan may replace Sri Lankan skipper Kumara Sangakkara as Lancashire's overseas player during the next county season.

With Sri Lanka having a packed schedule in the coming months, Sangakkara is unlikely to arrive at Old Trafford until August, which has prompted the Lancashire team management to look for other options.

"We may have to reassess if Sangakkara is still the right person for us," The BBC quoted Lancashire coach Peter Moores, as saying.

"In an ideal world I would have one overseas player to a certain point and then another player from that point. We would only like to have one change but we might not be able to avoid having two," he added.

Lancashire have already had to draft in South Africa's Ashwell Prince as an early-season cover because of Sangakkara's extended international commitments.

Younis, 32, has been banned by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for one year, which seems to be a blessing in disguise for the right-handed batsman, as he is now free to play a full season ith the English county team. (ANI)
