Left mounts pressure on govt over 'price rise'
New Delhi, Apr 8: The Left Front on Thursday, Apr 8 decided to mount pressure on the government over the issue of price rise by holding demonstrations here.
The agitations were in protest of the government's policies and its failure to check the raising prices and came as part of the nation-wide 'jail bharo' agitation announced by the four Left parties.
The demonstration near the Parliament House was led by Prakash Karat (CPI-M), A B Bardhan (CPI), Debabrata Biswas (Forward Bloc) and Abani Roy (RSP).
Besides the slogan shouting, protests and demonstrations, the CPI-M has reportedly begun preliminary consultations with other secular opposition parties like the TDP, JD(U), SP, BSP and RJD.
Sources revealed that a meeting between the parties is scheduled to take place before the Parliament resumes again after the month-long recess on Apr 15.
Once the talks are completed a national-level action call is expected to be made.
