'Tough' training camp turning out to be injury 'minefield' for Pak cricketers

By Super Admin

Lahore, Apr.7 (ANI): The training camp for the Pakistan cricket team here, is proving to be tough on the players, as many of them have suffered injuries.

In a bid to improve the fielding skills of players, coach Waqar Younis is making the team undergo a tough training schedule, which has resulted in injuries to many players.

Captain Shahid Afridi has suffered an injury to his fingers and fast bowler Umar Gul, who has been struggling with form and fitness in the recent past, is also nursing an injury.

All rounders Fawad Alam and Yasir Aarafat are also on the injury list, The Daily Times reports.

However, Afridi: "There is nothing serious. Gul has a shoulder problem but I hope he would be okay in a few days while the rest of the boys should also be fully fit soon."

"There have been fitness problems but it's natural because the camp has been tough so far. The boys are learning and I am confident that our fielding will improve," he added.

Afridi said the team management is planning to slow down the pace of training at the camp to time for rejuvenation before leaving for the West Indies.

"We will switch to lighter training in the final phase of the camp so that the players are fresh when we leave home to play the Twenty20 World Cup," Afridi said. (ANI)
