Ghaziabad, Apr 6: A panchayat has ordered the killing of a couple for marrying against their families wishes in Khekra town in Uttar Pradesh on Monday, Apr 5.
According to police, the panchayat had ordered the killing of both Jamil and Ayasha who had eloped to marry each other here on Mar 23.
Ayasha's family had lodged a case of kidnapping against Jamil. However, he got a stay order on Mar 30 and returned to Khekra with his bride.
After the panchayat order, the couple fled the village for their safety.
SP Deepak Kumar said, "Such verdicts will not be allowed in the district and all the involved Panch members will be arrested."
The incident comes within week of a Haryana court awarded death sentence to five persons and life sentence to one for murdering a couple for marrying against societal norms.
