Wenger says his Arsenal future depends on his young side

By Super Admin

London, Apr 4 (ANI): Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted for the first time that his Arsenal future depends on his young side's ability to win silverware.

Spanish giants Real Madrid have courted the Gunners boss, as his Emirates contract is up for renewal next year.

Wenger confirmed he will open talks on a new Arsenal deal this summer, but confessed: "My own future will depend on our capacity to win trophies as well as feeling this team is improving year after year, because we are still very young."

"Yes, we will talk this summer and, perhaps in the autumn. At the moment I want to finish this season as well as we can, then we will talk about it. But I don't think about who would succeed me. It will not be my job, not my decision," News of the World quoted him, as saying.

Arsenal has not won a trophy since 2005. Twelve months ago, Wenger hit back at Jose Mourino taunts by insisting it was more important to play beautiful football than to win cups. Now he says it is vital his young Guns win something.

"It's important for this generation to win this year and, after this season, next year. But I do think we can win this year," Wenger said.

Real Madrid made a major play for Wenger's services last summer, News of the World reports.

The Frenchman has won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups and took Arsenal to their first European Cup final. (ANI)
