Lalgarh, Apr 4: Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Sunday, Apr 4, slammed Maoists for not coming forward despite the Centre's call for talks.

Speaking to reporters, Chidambaram said, "The Naxals are cowards. Why are they hiding in forests?"

"If they really want to express the problems of the people, they should come and talk," he said.

Chidambaram said that much needs to be done to keep law and order under control in the state.

He further said that the buck of tackling Maoists must stop at the Chief Minister's table.

The Home Minister ruled out the pull out of central forces from the region.

Chidambaram also made it clear that the Centre is not planning military action against the Red Rebels. "We are not contemplating military action," he added.

It is for the first time after Operation Green Hunt was launched against Maoists in Jun 2009 that Chidambaram was visiting Lalgarh.
