Breast implants recalled over rupturing fear
Sydney, April 4 (ANI): Breast implants containing unauthorised silicone gel have been recalled by a French company over fear of serious risk of rupturing.
Manufactured by French company Poly Implant Prothese (PIP), the implants reportedly have double the risk of rupturing than other implants.
A risk assessment is being conducted by the Therapeutic Goods Association (TGA).
"The TGA is aware of this and is investigating the implications for Australian consumers," the Sydney Morning Herald a spokeswoman for TGA as saying.
Daniel Fleming, spokesman for Australasian College of Cosmetic Surgery, said women with breast implants should not panic but contact their surgeon.
If they had had the PIP implants they could request an ultrasound to find out if any rupturing had occurred. (ANI)
