Six Indian workers killed in an accident in UAE

Dubai, Mar 30: Six workers, believed to be of Indian-origin, were killed and 44 others were wounded when the bus in which they were traveling collided with a truck in UAE.

Police said that accident occurred on Monday, Mar 29, near Ruwais, about 240 km west of UAE capital Abu Dhabi.

"A truck and a bus, transporting workers to their workplace, were involved in the crash that claimed at least six lives," an Abu Dhabi police official told media.

While the identities of the deceased are yet to be confirmed by the police, the eyewitnesses said that they are Indian workers.

Of the 44 injured, 24 of them is said to have sustained minor injuries.

An official said that the injured have been taken to Gayathi, Mafraq, Madinat Zayed and Ruwais hospitals by the police ambulance.

He said that the cause of the accident is being probed by the traffic police, adding that the preliminary data indicated that the bus driver was at fault.

"He seems to have entered the main road without taking care, which led to the collision with the truck," he said.

According to Indian worker who had rushed to the spot, the police had to tear open the bus in order to rescue the workers who were trapped inside.

The impact of accident could be seen in the way the bus was flung several metres away from where the collision took place.
