'Pak Taliban plans to abduct US, Afghan diplomats'
Lahore, Mar 29: Pakistani intelligence agencies have warned of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan's (TTP) plan to abduct US and Afghan diplomats to bargain for the release of its arrested terrorists.
According to a newspaper report, intelligence reports also warned of terrorist attacks in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Lahore in the coming days by a a group of terrorists headed by Qari, which is a code name.
Following the intelligence inputs, law enforcement agencies have been ordered to step up security in Islamabad and other cities.
The inputs adds to the list of terror alerts issued by the Pakistani intelligence agencies concerning the possible kidnapping of high profile diplomats by the militants.
On Oct 2009, Pakistani security agencies were informed about the militants to abduct senior diplomats and the security agencies were invovled in thwarting possible suicide attacks against the political leaders or against the places frequented by foreigners.
Intelligence sources said that the previous pattern of attacks on foreigners in the country portrayed that the militants choose their targets carefully and the security forces have often been caught off guard in such attacks.
The first attack was carried out in Luna Caprese, on Mar 15, which was followed by an attack on the Danish embassy on Jun 2 and then on Sep 20, terrorist attacked the Marriott.
