“Kasab has no connection with the perpetrators of the 26/11 attacks. He has been arrested by police just because he is a Pakistani and according to the police the conspiracy of the attack was hatched in Pakistan," Mr Pawar said.
“Kasab is an innocent boy from a small village in Pakistan who has become an easy prey and target for the police," special Judge ML Tahiliyani was told.
The lawyer accused the police of being incompetent as they failed to arrest the real perpetrators and therefore caught hold of an innocent person.
He further alleged that all the evidence produced before the court including CCTV footage and DNA tests were all 'manipulated and fabricated'.
Pawar also brushed aside Kasab's confession saying that it was given under police 'duress'.
“The police had assured that he would be given lesser punishment and would be shifted out of this jail if he pleaded guilty," the lawyer argued.
Pawar's arguments will continue on Friday, Mar 26.
