JK: PDP stages walk out over food shortage
Jammu, Mar 25: Protesting against the shortage of food supplies, the opposition PDP staged a walk out from Jammu Kashmir Assembly after raising slogans against the government for failing to convene Centre enhancement of the ration leading to the huge shortage of the supplies.
Mehbooba Mufti not only blamed the state government for shortage of ration but also raised concern over complaints regarding bungling in Below Poverty Lines (BPL) and Above Poverty Line (APL) ration quotas in the state.
Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Qamar Ali Akhoon, who spoke on the Centre's projection and allocations of ration based on the population, said that Centre"s allocation is about 47.78 per cent short of the total requirements.
“The matter was raised several times with the central government and is awaiting approval and enhancement," he said.
Admitting that there have been complaints of bungling in BPL and APL ration, the minister informed that a committee has been constituted in each districts for reverification of BPL and APL populations.
