Jammu, Mar 25 (ANI): A unique state-of-the-art science exhibition inside a train, highlighting various environmental conditions and effects of global warming attracted many in Jammu on Wednesday.
Hundreds of school children thronged the Jammu railway station to take a look at the 'Science Express', a 16-coach air-conditioned train travelling across the country showcasing mysteries of science, and spreading awareness of global climate changes.
A brainchild of Department of Science and Technology (DST) along with Max Planck Society of Germany, the project aims to make people aware of adverse affects of global warming, and to motivate them to take initiatives to save the environment.
"We are encouraging students to take up the issues and join in campaigns, like ban on the use of polythene, pollution due to industrial effluents," said Daya Shankar Gupta, science communicator on board the Science Express.
The exhibition features over 300 large-format images, 150 video clips, charts, diagrams, posters and multimedia exhibits, and also a science laboratory to enable students to perform experiments.
"It is the first time in Jammu that such an exhibition is taking place. It is knowledge-giving; there is lot to learn. It was a pleasure coming here," said Sudhamani, a visitor.
Flagged off on October 30 by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi, the train is expected to cover 57 destinations across the country in a span of eight months. (ANI)
