Woes for India, US to address Pak's energy needs

Washington, Mar 24: In a worrisome development for India, United States on Wednesday, Mar 24 vowed to address Pakistan's energy needs signalling US' readiness to consider Pak's request for a civil nuclear deal.

The first ministerial-level US-Pakistan strategic dialogue began here on Wednesday, Mar 24.

Addressing the media, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gave, what is being seen as, sure shot signals that US was seriously considering Pakistan's request for a civil nuclear deal.

"Strengthening Pakistan's security is prime concern of the US...We assure Pakistan of addressing its energy needs," she said.

Just days ahead of the talks, Islamabad sought atomic cooperation from America even as India worked towards the Indo-US nuclear deal. Pak has also submitted a document to the Obama Administration in this regard.

"Pakistan's stability is in the interest of the world. Violence is Pakistan is senseless," she said, adding, "US pledges full support to Pakistan against Taliban, which is trying to stabilise in Pakistan."
