Maoists blow up rly tracks, blast bridge
Jharkhand/West Bengal Mar 22: In a violent start to the 48-hour bandh called by CPI(Maoist) in protest against the Operation Green Hunt, the rebels blew up a stretch of land along the railway track between Midnapore and Godapia Sal stations.
However, the district magistrate NS Nigam said that the tracks were not damaged in the blast which occured at Bhalukkhunia.
"Through
such
incidents,
the
Maoists
are
trying
to
divert
the
attention
of
the
combined
forces
engaged
in
the
combing
operation
to
flush
out
Maoists
from
the
Jangalmahal
area",
Nigam
said.
The
train
services
have
been
disrupted
as
security
checks
were
being
carried
out
in
the
area.
Earlier, on Sunday Mar 21, the rebels blew up a road bridge in Ghatshila sub-division of East Singhbhum district.
The Naxals used landmine to blow up the bridge connecting Musaboni and Dumaria, Ghatshila SDPO Anup Birtheray said.
The 48-hour bandh has been called in Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh and three districts of Maharashtra - Bhandara, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli.
