7 magnitude quake jolts Indonesia
Jakarta, Mar 14: An earthquake of measuring 7 on the Richter scale shook eastern Indonesian islands on Sunday, Mar 14, morning in North Maluku province, meteorologists said.
The Indonesian Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMG) said that the earthquake occured at a depth of 56 km, 2,430 km north-east of Jakarta at 7:57 a.m. Jakarta time (0627 IST).
However, BMG said that the quake did not trigger a tsunami.
Meteriologist said that there were no immediate report on injuries or damages.
The recent incident adds to the list of earthquakes that had jolted Indonesia in the past couple of weeks.
A moderate 6-magnitude quake struck Manokwari in West Papua province, on Saturday, Mar 6, in which there was no casualties or damage.
On Sep 2009, thousands of people were killed and hundreds were injured when a 7.6-magnitude quake jolted the western coast of Sumatra.
