Pak confused over identity of arrested Qaeda man
Washington, Mar 9: A day after reports on the arrest of a top American al-Qaeda leader Adam Gadahn in Karachi, Pakistan has expressed confusion over the identity of the arrested militant.
The detained al-Qaeda leader was earlier identified as Abu Yahya Mujahdeen Al- Adam, who is reportedly one of the CIA 's top ten most wanted terrorists.
However, some Pakistani officials has now said that the detained al-Qaeda leader was not the American al Qaeda spokesman Adam Gadahn, that they had thought of. The confuion was created as both the militants uses the similar alias Abu Yahya.
"Our initial impression was that the guy was Adam Gadahn but that information now looks incorrect," said one security official, who declined to be identified. The arrested man was believed to be an American who goes by the alias Abu Yahya, the officials said. Gadahn is known to have used a similar alias.
"Probably the name and his origin caused the confusion," an official said in a media report.
The report could dampen the spirit of the security forces who had considered the arrest as a significant breathrough.
