PM meets allies over Bill ahead of voting
New Delhi, Mar 8: In an attempt to draw consensus for the Women's Reservation Bill in the parliament, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has called for an all-party meeting with the allies ahead of the voting scheduled at 6 pm on Monday, Mar 8.
Media reports said that the allies, Congress MPs are trying to convince the Prime Minister to defer the bill by a day in the wake of the wafer thin majority for the Bill.
The Prime Minister has been told by the parties that voting should not take place without any discussion.
It has been said that Congress President Sonia Gandhi wants the Bill to be passed on Monday, Mar 8.
The voting for the Women's Reservation Bill will take place at 6 pm after it was tabled in the Rajya Sabha by Law Minister Veerappa Moily amidst protest.
The Prime Minister has also called for an all party meeting on Tuesday, Mar 9.
