Varanasi: BSP leader held in rape case
Varanasi, Mar 7: Police have arrested a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader on Sunday, Mar 7, in connection with a rape case.
Amir Chand Patel was arrested for allegedly raping a woman in 2009, said Vijay Bhushan, superintendent of police.
Vibha alias Kiran Mishra, a widow had lodged a complaint against Patel. The matter was transferred to special investigation section (SIS) of district police for investigation.
Following the submission of the report by SIS, the police lodged a case of rape and fraud against the BSP leader.
The court sent him to jail on 14-days judicial remand. It was alleged that Patel not only exploited Mishra sexually but also took her ornaments by making false promises.
