Women's Reservation Bill: BJP issues whip
New Delhi, Mar 5: The Bharatiya Janata Party has not only vowed complete support for the Women's Reservation Bill, which is scheduled to be tabled on Mar 8, but also issued a whip to all its party members to be present in the Rajya Sabha during the session.
"A whip has been issued to party MPs to be present in the house on Monday," BJP leader Arun Jaitley said on Friday, Mar 5.
On the party's stand on bill, Jaitley said, "It (the bill) is a long standing commitment. We support it fully."
The Congress-led UPA government earlier said that long-awaited Women Reservation Bill will be tabled in the Rajya Sabha on Monday, Mar 8, which happens to be the International Women's Day.
The bill which has been pending for over a decade now reserves 33 per cent for women in Lok Sabha and state assemblies.
BJP has, however, made it clear that the bill will get the party's support only if it is passed in the present form.
