Australian selector Hilditch has high hopes for Aussie Twenty20 side

By Super Admin

Melbourne, Feb 18(ANI): Australia's chief selector Andrew Hilditch hopes that a re-fitted Australian Twenty20 unit can finally lift the World Twenty20 trophy in the Caribbean in May.

Australia was knocked out of the semi-finals of the 2007 World Twenty20 by India in South Africa and bundled out at the group stage in England in 2009.

"I think we have always taken it very seriously but we are trying to have more of an impact in this World Cup," Fox Sports quoted Hilditch, as saying.

Australia will feature in four Twenty20 hit-outs against the West Indies and New Zealand over the next 10 days where Hilditch hopes to finalize the squad for the Caribbean.

"The core of the squad has obviously already been picked for the World Cup, but we will be taking the opportunity to look at other alternatives," said Hilditch.

He further highlighted that Allan Border Medallist Shane Watson will be a supreme force with bat and ball, and all-rounder Dan Christian will add vital support.Christian has been added to the squad that humbled Pakistan on February 5 in Melbourne and Hilditch believes the Redbacks' hitman could become Australia's new X-factor.

"We are very happy with our preparation but also to add Dan to our squad. He deserves his opportunity, and has good recent form," Hilditch said. (ANI)
