Jammu, Feb 17: The government has assured that it will provide high-profile security to all international sportspersons during the upcoming Hockey World Cup tournament.
Speaking to reporters here, Home Minister P Chidambaram urged the players not to be disturbed by the threats issued by some terror organizations.
He said, "The government is fully capable of ensuring safety and security all players, including the foreigners."
The assurance comes a day after Al Qaeda leader and 313 Brigade Commander Ilyas Kashmiri warned sportspersons against visiting India
The government has provided additional 1,200 paramilitary personnel, including 200 commandos to Delhi Police for the Hockey World Cup 2010.
The 200 commandos will guard the high-rise buildings around the venue- National Stadium near India Gate, New Delhi.
The players will be give a three-tier security during their stay in Hotels. Also, they will be taken to the stadium in bullet-proof vehicles.
