The accused known as Amrit Pal Sharma (34) was arrested from Nizamuddin station on Feb 12 after he tried to escape with a cash of Rs 1.5 lakh, eight credit cards, two mobile phones and diamond and gold jewelery.
He allegedly mixed sedative in the tea Sonu, a jeweler from Bihar, who was staying in Nabi Karim's Hotel Gujrati Niwas before looting him.
"Due to financial crisis, he made a plan to commit some theft in the hotel. He procured the sedatives and mixed these tablets in tea and served it," a senior police official said.
In order to evade arrest, Sharma had allegedly torn pages of the record register having his residential details before fleeing from the scene.
He was later arrested by the police following a tip-off about him coming to Delhi to dispose of the valuables.
