Mumbai, Feb 12: The defence lawyer of one of the 26/11 accused and Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) operative, Fahim Ansari, was shot dead at his office in suburban Kurla by unidentified assailants on Thursday, Feb 11.

Quoting police some reports say that four assailants, who barged into the office of 32-year-old lawyer Shahid Azmi, shot two bullets into him at point blank range.

Other reports suggest that the gunmen posed as potential clients to enter the lawyer's offices, after which they shot at least four rounds at him.

The lawyer who sustained bullet wounds was rushed to Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar, where he was declared dead.

Shahid Azmi, who was nephew of Samajwadi Party leader and Govandi MLA Abu Asim Azmi, was defending Ansari who is believed to have provided the 26/11 terrorists a map of Mumbai showing all the important spots.

He also defended Faizal Sheikh, the alleged mastermind of the Jul 11, 2006 serial train blasts.

This put the lawyer under a lot of threat. He had even reported to the police that the underworld had threatened him.
