Vijender remains No 1 on AIBA rankings

New Delhi, Feb 11: Grabbing the silver medal at the Champion of Champions tournament in China, Indian puglist Vijender Singh proclaimed that he still deserves the number 1 spot in the middlewight category in the latest International Boxing Association (AIBA) rankings.

The Olympic and World Championship bronze medallist, who has 2513 points, is followed by Olympic silver medallist Emilio Correa Bayeux with 2300 points.

A wrist injury has put Bayeux out of action.

The third spot is held by Uzbek Abbos Atoev with 1875. Atoev defeated Vijender in the World Championship semifinals in 2009.

The next AIBA world rankings will be released in Apr 2010 at the end of the Youth World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan.
