Bangladesh Opposition leader shot dead
Dhaka, Feb 10: Unidentified gunmen killed the leader of Opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party here on Tuesday, Feb 9 night.
Ahamad Hossain, who is also the councillor of Dhaka City Corporation ward 70, was shot dead when he was coming out of a mosque, identified as Alubazar Masjid, at Bangshal.
"As soon as the councillor came out of the mosque after Esha prayers, two criminals fired three bullets at him and sped away on a motorbike," police said.
The councillor, who received two bullet wounds in his throat, was immediately taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
He was later shifted to Square Hospital where he died around 10 pm (local time) on Tuesday, Feb 9.
The police are yet to identify the assailants and the motive behind the attack.
The incident forced the shops and other business establishments in the area to shut down. People took to street in protest of the killing of Hossain, the leader of Dhaka city unit of Juba Dal, the youth front of the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
