Naxalism is major internal threat: Chidambaram
New Delhi, Feb 7: Home Minister P Chidambaram on Sunday, Feb 7, said that Naxalism has become a major internal threat to the country.
Addressing a chief ministers' conference on internal security, Chidambram said, "We are Satisfied that no terror attack has taken place during the last 14 months. However, we must remain vigilant to thwart terrorists' designs."
The Home Minister said, "Naxalism is a major threat today. While infilration has gone up in Jammu Kashmir, the Maoists have rejected our talks proposal."
Chidambaram noted that there is a great need to fill police vacancies in states. Manpower shortage in police is a matter of concern.
"States are yet to show eagerness towards recruitment as per the Supreme Court guidelines," he added.
