London, Feb. 3 (ANI): While the luck of under-fire England skipper John Terry is yet to be decided, the Chelsea defender has suffered yet another blow in form of a poll that revealed that most England fans want Wayne Rooney to wear the captain's hat.
According to a poll conducted by men's lifestyle magazine Asylum, 7,072 of the 22,000 voters supported Rooney as captain while 6,745 supported Terry. Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard came third with 5,094 votes.
"It's interesting that Asylum readers have picked Rooney considering he returned home from the last World Cup under such a cloud. Obviously, the great British public are happy to give second chances, something that could work in Terry's favour," The Mirror quoted Asylum editor Michael Rundle as saying.
The Manchester United striker, who has hit 21 goals this season, has matured in the eyes of many after marrying long-time girlfriend Colleen and becoming a father.
Rooney, 24, was sent off in disgrace at the last World Cup as England crashed to defeat against Portugal.
But Rooney has this season been credited with single-handedly leading United's title challenge following the departure last summer of Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez. (ANI)
