Sydney, Feb.2 (ANI): A seething Australian skipper Ricky Ponting has demanded that the authorities make an example of the invader, who cannoned into Pakistan's Khalid Latif at the WACA ground a couple of days ago.

Ponting said he would have hauled his side off the field if an Australian player had been assaulted during a match featuring two pitch invasions.

According to the Herald Sun, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has demanded a "please explain" from Cricket Australia on the ground invasion incident that sullied the image of the game in this country.

The ICC has the power to strip troublesome venues of their international status, and has expressed disappointment over the WACA incident, wanting to know why security protocols were not in place ahead of the event.

"It was a clear breach of security and we have written to Cricket Australia and we are waiting for a report," an ICC spokesman said last night.

Australian cricket bosses have implored the West Australian Government to increase penalties for ground invaders drastically.

The fine for ground invasion at the WACA is only 500 dollars, compared to 7000 dollars at the MCG, 5500 dollars at the SCG and 4000 dollars at the Gabba. (ANI)
