Roast lamb declared Australia's national dish
Melbourne, Feb 02 (ANI): Roast lamb has been named Australia's national dish.
A survey across all mainland capitals saw the lamb emerge as the favorite food.
The poll, held on News Ltd websites as part of the launch of the new taste liftout in The Daily Telegraph newspaper, attracted more than 24,000 votes.
The meat pie with 5741 votes followed roast lamb with 6177 votes.
"We've been eating roast lamb in Australia since the arrival of Arthur Phillip because he brought 44 sheep with him. I'm sure they weren't just for wool," the Daily Telegraph quoted Meat and Livestock Australia general manager marketing David Thomason, as saying.
Barbecued sausage in bread was placed at the third spot.
Australian Lambassador Sam Kekovich said: "The country itself was conceived on the back of a sheep, our heritage emanates from lamb, so it only stands to reason that it would be our national ish." (ANI)
