Maoists raid NMDC mining complex, burn 19 trucks
Raipur, Jan 27: The state-run NMDC in Chhattisgarh"s Dantewada district was raided by over 100 armed Maoists on Wednesday, Jan 27, who also set ablaze 19 trucks.
The rebels barged into the mining complex of India"s largest iron ore miner at Kirandul at around 2 am.
"The rebels sneaked into Kirandul"s 11-B deposit of the NMDC and burnt 19 trucks hired by NMDC for iron ore transportation," Lakhan Thakur, in charge of the Kirandul police station said in a news agency report.
Senior district officials have gone to the place of incident.
Mining facilities in Dantewada, Maoist stronghold, and security gaurds at NMDC mining complexes in Chhattisgarh have faced several attacks over the past few years.
Iron ore dispatches have also come under frequent attacks.
