Patna (Bihar), Jan 26 (ANI): Women activists of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) staged a demonstration here against the rise in the prices of essential commodities.

The protestors beat utensils and raised slogans against the Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal-United (JD-U) Government in the state.

They accused the State Government for failing to control the rising prices and also for not taking adequate preventive measures to check inflation.

Bharti Srivastava, a protestor, said: "We are staging this protest against the government which has failed on every front...all people of the state have joined hands against the government."

Kumar, however, blamed the Centre's economic policies for the increase in prices.

He said his government has taken several steps to hold the price line and also highlighted the drive against hoarders.

"Our government has exempted VAT (value added tax) and other taxes on sugar. Besides this, we have also imposed restrictions on stock of essential items. We also gave phone numbers to people to make complaint and we are keeping a vigil on everything, but the wrong policies of the Central Government are to be blamed for rising prices," Kumar said.

"The Centre has to take necessary steps to curb inflation. The government officials must take care while making a statement, as in case of milk, when one says that the prices of milk may go up and if the prices are not rising then they might see an upsurge," he added. (ANI)
