Mumbai, Jan 25: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has found top celebrities and VIPs such as Sachin Tendulkar, Anil Ambani, DY Patil and Shakar Mahadevan guilty of cess theft.

The NMMC's drive against car owners who have failed to pay the cess for registration in their jurisdiction has netted around one lakh defaulters.

"We found that we have not received cess on over one lakh vehicles that are registered at the Navi Mumbai RTO. We got the addresses of the owners and have sent them legal notices," NMMC's deputy municipal commissioner (Cess) Mahavir Pendhari is quoted as saying in news reports.

The high and mighty of Mumbai including the master blaster Tendulkar, and one of the country's biggest businessman Anil Ambani have been reportedly slapped with notices.

What adds to the shame is that fact that these high profile personalities who can afford luxury cars reportedly buy cars from the Navi Mumbai region to save money on taxes as NMMC levies a cess of 1 per cent as opposed to the Mumbai region's 5.5 per cent.

Even with all this calculations, the well-to-do celebs and VIPs still fail to pay the cess!
