BJP, Cong debate over naming Delhi's Civic Center
New Delhi, Jan 23: The under-construction 112-metre high Civic Centre has started a heated a argument between BJP and Congress.
Both the parties are adamant to have the last word while naming the city's tallest building, housing the new MCD headquarters.
The BJP wants to name Rs. 550 crore building after Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, the founder of the BJP predecessor, Jan Sangh,
" We will name the building after Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. It will be a fitting tribute to him," Leader of MCD House Subhash Arya said here after an inspection tour of the building.
The party is considering the idea of naming the different blocks of the building after various rivers of India.
However, Congress party is of the opinion that the building should be name after Mahatma Gandhi.
“It would be better if it is named after the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi." Leader of opposition Congress" J. K. Sharma said.
The MCD is likely to shift by April 2010.
