"Shattered" Aamer couldn't perform after dropping Ponting at Hobart

By Super Admin

Brisbane, Jan.21 (ANI): Young Pakistan fast bowler Mohammed Amer was annoyed with himself and rued dropping Australian captain Ricky Ponting on the first day of the third and final Test match at Hobart.

Aamer floored a simple catch from Ponting while he was still to open his account and went on to hit a brilliant double century in that innings.

"He (Aamer) was completely shattered. He was clueless how he dropped that simple catch and knew that it took the game away from us. I think he was unable to give his hundred percent in the match at least not till Ponting got out," team manager Abdul Raqueeb said.

Ponting batted Pakistan out of the match through his fine innings of 209 in the first innings followed by 89 in the second innings.

Aamer was touted as Pakistan's main weapon when Pakistan arrived in Australia for a challenging series, however, the teenaged pacer managed to bag just eight wickets from two Tests at an average of 40.37 after missing the second Test in Sydney due to a roin injury.

He seemed to be struggling at Hobart, however, Raqueeb downed fears over Aamer's fitness.

"There is nothing wrong with Aamer's fitness. He is a hundred percent fit and is hoping to play his role in the one-dayers," The News quoted Raqueeb, as saying. (ANI)
