London, Jan. 20 (ANI): A Kashmiri-origin businessman, who was given a two and a half year jail sentence for fighting off knife-wielding burglars to save his family, has failed to get permission to appeal against their convictions.

Britain's top judge snubbed a bid by Munir Hussain, 53, and his brother Tokeer, 35, to clear their names at London's Court of Appeal, The Sun reports.

A panel, led by Lord Judge, the Lord Chief Justice, will today decide whether to reduce the men's jail sentences.

In December, Munir got 30 months and Tokeer 39 months after they were convicted of causing grievous bodily harm.

However, one of the intruders was let scot-free.

The incident occurred when the Hussains family returned from their mosque during Ramadan to find three intruders, including career-criminal Walid Salem, 56, wearing balaclavas in their home.

Hussain was threatened that he would be killed. His family's hands were tied behind their backs and they were forced to crawl from room to room.

Hussain, 53, made an escape after throwing a coffee table and enlisted his brother Tokeer, 35, in chasing the offenders down the street in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, bringing one of them to the ground. (ANI)
