Mumbai: 6 students commit suicide; Govt calls meet
Mumbai, Jan 20: The spate of student suicides in Mumbai has alarmed the state government.
According to reports, the city reported six suicides in 24 hours.
Four of the students committed suicide on Tuesday, Jan 19. Two more deaths were reported later on.
Chief Minister Ashok Chavan has directed the education minister to call a meeting of heads of important educational institutions and experts to find ways to control the situation.
According to police said, SSC student Sejal Patil allegedly hanged herself at her residence in Byculla.
Police said, her parents were in office at that time. Sejal's sister returned home in the evening to find her hanging. There was no suicide note.
In another incident, Class 12 student Deepak Upadhyay allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his house in Samta Nagar in Kandivali. There was no suicide note.
