Lucknow, Jan 20: A leader of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) was found murdered along with his teenage daughter at their Awas Vikas Colony home in Barabanki, about 35 km from here on Tuesday, Jan 19 night.
Sushil Kumar, the president of the party"s Bhaichara Banao Samiti (Brahmin-Dalit Goodwill Committee) in Barabanki district, was found with his throat slit while 18-year-old daughter Ranjeeta appeared to have been killed by strangulation with her dupatta.
The murders have triggered off protests and agitation. BSP activists resorted to violence and vandalism demanding the arrests of the perpetrators.
Police inspector Ramesh Dubey informed that security has been tightened in the wake of the protests.
The murders were reported by 48-year-old leader's son Rahul.
“Rahul had called up his sister"s phone a number of times. After the calls went unanswered, Rahul reached his home and saw the doors were latched from outside. Later, he came across the two bodies and approached us," Dubey said.
He added that no arrests have been made yet and the motive behind the murders is yet to be ascertained.
