48-hr bandh in Telangana after students' suicide
Hyderabad, Nov 30: A 48-hour shutdown called by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) on Wednesday, Jan 20, paralysed normal life in Telangana region.
The Students Action Committee spearheaded by the students from the Osmania University have called for a bandh in the region.
They are demanding that the people's representatives from Telangana to quit immediately and press for a time frame from the Centre for the implementation of its intent to create a separate state.
The JAC called for a strike after two students, depressed over the delay in carving out a separate Telangana state, committed suicide.
The JAC also announced that all elected representatives would submit their resignations and those who have already done so would press for their acceptance.
Five legislators of Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) and one of Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) began a sit-in at the house of assembly speaker Kirankumar Reddy on Tuesday night, Jan 19.
They urged him to immediately accept their resignations. The speaker, however, sought two to three days to take a decision.
