Kolkata, Jan 18: The last rites of the CPI(m) patriach will be held on Tuesday, Jan 19. His body will be taken from funeral parlour 'Peace Haven' to the state secretariat, Assembly and the party headquarters, and will finally be handed over the SSKM Hospital in accordance with Basu's last wish.
"Basu's body will be handed over to the SSKM hospital as per his wish," said CPI(M) state committee member Rabin Deb.
Party sources said that Basu had donated his body to 'Ganadarpan', an NGO, in the city years back.
According to media reports, CPI(M) state secretary Biman Bose said that Basu's body will be kept would be kept at the state Assembly premises for four hours, from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm to enable people to pay their last respects on Tuesday, Jan 19.
Bose informed that at 3pm Basu's body will be taken headquarters on Alimuddin street where the body will be kept for an hour, before taking it to its final journey to to the SSKM Hospital.
Along with the CPI (M) politburo and central committee members, Bangladesh prime minister, Sheikh Hasina will also pay his homage to the former West Bengal chief minister.
