'Beleaguered' Benitez under pressure as fans want him booted out

By Super Admin

London, Jan 17(ANI): A recent poll, which has been running since Liverpool's disastrous FA Cup defeat by Championship strugglers Reading, has revealed that a staggering 73 per cent of the club's fans want manger Rafa Benitez to be booted out.

The poll conducted by the Sport Of The World also has former Chelsea managers Guus Hiddink and Jose Mourinho as the favourites to succeed him.

Until now, Rafa has always enjoyed strong backing from fans, but increasingly it's only the on-going support of Texan co-owner Tom Hicks that means Benitez has until the end of the season to save his job, News of The World reports.

After Sunday's 1-1 draw at Stoke, the home fans taunted the Spaniard with chants of: "You're getting sacked in the morning."

Benitez, who signed a five-year deal last March, insists that he will not walk out of the club and will stay until 2014.

The Reds have been ousted out of the Champions League, Premier League title race and now the FA Cup after losing to Championship strugglers Reading 2-1.

However, Benitez has vowed to fight on, and said: "Everyone knows the team is not playing at the level it can. When we lose, everyone loses - the fans, the players, the staff. I can understand the fans' frustrations, but we feel the same. We want to win for them."

"As for my future, all I will say is that my future is against Stoke - I have to be ready for the next game," he added. (ANI)
