Telangana: Govt, Cong meet over JAC deadline

New Delhi, Jan 16: In the latest update on Telangana issue, a high-level meeting was held by the Congress party and the government on Friday, Jan 15 to discuss the law and other situation in Andhra Pradesh.

The meeting of the Congress Core Group was held against the deadline of Jan 28, given by the Telangana Political Joint Action Committee (JAC) to come up with a time frame for Telangana state.

The JAC pressed for acceptance of the resignation of the political leaders of the region if the government fails to come up with a solution with the proposed deadline.

The Core Group meeting headed by the party chief Sonia Gandhi is the second meeting held after the meeting by home minister P Chidambaram with all political parties of Andhra Pradesh in Jan 5, 2010.

The government is said to be mulling over the pros and cons on the mechanism and the implications it would have on the dialogue process.

According to sources the meeting also included discussions on certain political issues.

The meeting was attended by prime minister Manmohan singh, home minister P Chidambaram, finance minister Pranab Mukherjee, defence minister AK Antony and political secretary to Congress president Ahmed Patel.
