Oz: Indian cabbie's attacker sentenced
Melbourne, Jan 15: Handing out speedy justice, an Australian court sentenced 48-year-old Paul John Brogden to three months imprisonment for assaulting an Indian cabbie.
Brogden was arrested after he abused and assaulted the Indian early on Friday, Jan 15 morning.
"Regardless of race, violence toward people in vulnerable positions, performing valuable services to the community, valuable jobs like driving taxis or working in 7/11s, violence toward these people will not be tolerated," said Magistrate Michelle Hodgson ,who handed out the sentence.
The accused was sentenced after he pleaded guilty.
"When you drop me off I will kill you, you mother f**king Indian, I will kill you, you f**king Indian bastard," he reportedly told the Indian.
The 24-year-old victim, identified as Satheesh Thatipamula, did not sustain any major injuries in the attack.
Brogden's lawyer, Philip Lynch said that his client was very drunk and he could not recollect the events.
